Lifeboat Trainer

Terms & Conditions

Effective: 5 May 2026. This is the first version of these terms.

These terms are an agreement between you and Daron Pritchard(sole operator, Jersey) about your use of the Lifeboat Trainer mobile app ("the app"). Please read them. By creating an account or using the app you agree to be bound by them.

1. The service

Lifeboat Trainer is a study and self-test tool that helps RNLI crew learn the layout of their station's boats. It is a training aid. It is not a substitute for the official training, assessment, or operating procedures of the RNLI or any other lifeboat organisation, and it is not a tool for use in a real emergency.

The app is RNLI-themed because it is designed for RNLI crew, but it is not endorsed by or affiliated with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

2. Your account

3. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

4. Content uploaded by station administrators

Station administrators may upload photos of their boats so the app can show layouts to their crew. By uploading a photo, the administrator confirms that:

If you believe a photo has been uploaded without proper rights, email us and we will investigate and remove it if needed.

5. Disclaimer — training aid only

The app is provided to help you learn. We make every reasonable effort to keep the content accurate and up to date, but boats, equipment, and procedures change. Always deferto your station's official training and current operating procedures, and to the boat in front of you, rather than to anything the app shows.

Do not rely on the app for decisions during a real shout, exercise, or any safety-critical situation.

6. Intellectual property

The app itself — the code, the design, the icons, and the non-station-specific content — belongs to Daron Pritchard. Boat photos and layout content remain the property of the station that uploaded them, used in the app under the licence in section 4.

You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial training. You may not copy, redistribute, or build a competing product from it.

7. Limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, conditions, and other terms that would otherwise be implied — including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and uninterrupted availability.

We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

Subject to that, our total liability to you arising out of the app in any 12-month period is limited to £100. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential losses, lost data (beyond reasonable recovery efforts), or losses you would not normally expect from using a free training app.

8. Termination and account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the app, or by emailing us. Deletion is subject to a 30-day grace period as described in the Privacy Policy.

We can suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll tell you first.

9. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. The operator is resident in Jersey.

Nothing in this section takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

10. Changes to these terms

If we update these terms we'll change the effective date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
